Circular aesthetics: Recycled basralocus
The architectural design places circularity and the reuse of materials at the center. For this reason, recycled basralocus was chosen for the wooden cladding of the first block. This extremely strong hardwood is sourced from old, decommissioned mooring posts. This facade wood consists largely of recycled mooring posts — a beautiful example of circularity without compromising on aesthetic appeal.
By giving this wood a high-quality second life, CO₂ is sequestered for decades to come, and the building immediately acquires a weathered, characterful, and robust appearance that perfectly aligns with the industrial history of Amsterdam's Eastern Islands.
Innovation in facade construction: The Forestlines® system with Fire Class B
To take this circular base material to an even higher level, the facade cladding is supplied in the revolutionary Forestlines® system. This innovative mounting system combines the wooden profiles with an aluminium intermediate profile. This offers crucial advantages for residential construction:
-
Certified fire safety (B-s1,d0): Of particular interest to practitioners is that this untreated, recycled Basralocus, thanks to the Forestlines® system, meets the strictest European fire reaction class. B-s1,d0 (single-sided in End-use) achieves. This occurs entirely naturally, without the use of chemical flame retardants. This makes it the ultimate, safe, and environmentally friendly choice for urban residential construction.
-
Clean, architectural lines: The aluminium profile not only provides fire-retardant properties but also gives the facade an extremely stable and modern interplay of lines.
Strong partnership in the implementation
A high-quality system and unique wood demand practical craftsmanship. The installation and facade realization are in the hands of Flow Gevelbekleding. In close collaboration, we ensure a flawless logistical chain and technical supervision. On the construction site, Flow Gevelbekleding translates the materials into a facade with clean lines and extremely neat detailing. The result is a facade that remains technically and visually perfect, even after decades.
