The fire class requirements are stricter when the wooden surface is part of an escape route (such as an open gallery, balcony in an apartment building, or emergency staircase):
In many cases it will suffice untreated, solid wood naturally Dfl-s1.
Azobé, Bilinga, and Massaranduba woods are popular for outdoor applications, such as patios and decking, due to their exceptionally high durability (Class 1) and high density. This high density and mass naturally make them perform better in fire conditions than many lighter woods.
